This Week:
Nov. 18, UTEP/Wyoming (H)
Vs. Kentucky: Kentucky took Friday's match in Lexington against Air Force, 6157 to 6047.
For Air Force's fourth match of the year, scores are about on track with where they should be. In the .22 rifle event, C1C (senior) Daimon Geopfert once again led the Falcons with an 1156 out of 1200. Geopfert also led the team on Friday in the air rifle event with a 382 out of 400.
Vs. Xavier: On Sunday the team competed at Xavier University for the Walsh tournament. The team had about the same score in both events, but improved each event by about 10 points. Westergren took first among the Falcons with an 1152 out of 1200. C2C (junior) Brian DeBruhl led the Falcons in the air rifle event with a person record of 387 out of 400. DeBruhl's 387 is the best air rifle score of the year for the falcons.
As one person on the team stumbles, another is there to pick up the slack this year. Each match the team is slowly moving upward in total score and performance. Overall results for the Walsh tournament will not be available for two weeks. Being the biggest shooting tournament in the country, it takes multiple weeks for all schools to complete firing. Since shooters are really competing against the same static target and indoor range conditions do not change, a tournament can span multiple days or weeks and be competed under the same conditions.
Upcoming: Air Force will be hosting its first home match on the Academy in close to 10 years this weekend (since 1991, all home matches were at the US Olympic Training Center). UT El Paso and Wyoming are coming in for what should be a very close match between Air Force and UTEP. Start time will be 0800 on Saturday for the first round down range.
