Air Force was led by C1C (senior) Daimon Geopfert in both smallbore rifle and air rifle during Saturday's competition. The team's performance was described as "average" by head coach Capt. Jim Broughton, but it proved to be a great baseline to start the spring semester. Notable performances include Daimon Geopfert's 387/400 air rifle score and C2C (junior) Mike Granberry's air rifle score of 385/400.
Grandberry is only in his second year of competitive shooting, having joined the team last year as a walk-on. The team continued its upward drive during Sunday's competition as the Falcons defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Air Force improved by 17 very important points and moved to a decisive victory over the Buckeyes. The Falcons are on the move towards the most important match of the year, the NCAA Qualifiers. The Air Force Academy will host an NCAA Qualifier on 17-18 Feb with UT El Paso and Wyoming in attendance. The entire team focus is the NCAA Qualifiers as that is the "make or break" event of the year. There is exactly one chance for the team to make the NCAA Championships and 17-18 Feb will be it.
This weekend the Falcons continued to improve, firing their best scores of the year. The Falcons are on track to qualify and place at the NCAA Championships to be held the weekend of March 10 at the Ohio State University. Air Force will be in competition again on January 27 at the Southwest Invitational Tournament, hosted by the University of Texas, El Paso.
