I am thoroughly aware that the Fencing season has started. I go to work at 9:00am, eat an apple for lunch, go home at 8:00pm for dinner and do homework. I love it.
So far so good. The team passed its first test at the North American Cup at Ogden, Utah. Everyone who participated had very acceptable results. We are now preparing for the New Mexico Open, which will take place on Oct. 27-28. We consider this a very important part of our season. The past several years, our results have gotten better and better and we expect no different this year.
In November, we will send several of our newest prospects to the Junior NAC in Mesquite, Texas. Ryan Dunn, Ashley Roell, Apphia Taylor, and Gian-Carlo Rando will be competing. I expect Ashley and Gian-Carlo to do especially well since they will be competing in front of a home crowd. That will provide extra pressure as well.
Dunn should do especially well. He is one of the top ranked fencers in the country and a fine young man. He works very hard and is a pleasure to coach. He will also be going on some overseas trips to compete in several World Cup events.
My wife and I are now preparing to host the cadets and staff at our home for a dining out. It is one of the most enjoyable parts of my job. Until next time, stay safe and God Bless. - Abdel Salem
