Falcons To Host Decathalon\Heptathlon Open

The men and womens track team will host the Air Force Decathlon\Heptathlon this Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. both days at the outdoor track.
The mens decathlon features 10 athletes including the Falcons Kurt Duffy, Tom Clark, Justin Ballinger, Nick Hearld, Luke Marker and Jim Campbell. Competing for Air Force in the womens heptathlon will be Ana Maria Ortega, Brittany Edmonds, Asia Mays, Adonis Haynes and Judi Bush. Following the mid-week competition, the entire men and womens team travels to Palo Alto, Calif. To compete in the Stanford Open on Sunday, Mar. 25.
The two teams got their first outdoor competition of the season last Saturday at the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock, Tex. In cold and windy conditions, the Falcon men won six events and the women won five.
For the men, event winners included: Jason Sanders (800-meters, 1:58.23); Al Kelly (3000-meter steeplechase, 10:02.17); Jim Blech (5000-meters, 15:30.16); Tom Clark (400m hurdles, 55.10); Ben Gensic (pole vault, 16'0") and Shawn Johnson (Shot Put, 53'7"). Women event winners included: Lara Coppinger (5000-meters, 19:44.83); Ortega (100m hurdles, 16.35 and pole vault 115 3/4); Domonique Torbert (long jump, 16'8") and Jocelyn Dooley (javelin throw: 122'4").
