In the women's race, the Falcons placed 25th with a team score of 634 points. Coach Mark Stanforth can be very proud of the Air Force runners. In the field of 300 competitors, the Falcon women finished the race with a team average time of 22:45. Brandess Pardue, a sophomore from Aurora, Colo., was the team leader in 22:38 she finished in 111th place. Pardue, like the rest of her teammates, shaved seconds off her previous time. Pardue ran 22:54 at the New Mexico Invitational on Sept. 22. The rest of the Falcons' top seven runners, with season best times, were Anne Chumlea who finished 117th in 22:40, Elissa Ballas in 124th (22:43), Jean Taylor in 135th (22:48), Lara Coppinger in 147th (22:54), Kelly McPherson at 175th (23:16) and Cindy Dawson who finished 195th with a season best time of 23:36. Also finishing were Mary Uhler and Stephanie Cornell with times of 23:57 and 24:39, respectively. Cornell's time is also a season best. Thirty-two teams ran the 6K race. Arizona State was victorious with 109 points.
In the '98 Griak Invitational, the women's team finished 16th in a field of 18 teams, compared to this year's 32-team race. Heather Johnson was the team leader then with a time of 18:47 she finished 67th in the 5K race. Pardue's time may have been three minutes slower this time, but the 6K field of competitors was wider.
