Falcons Down Notre Dame In Swimming Season Opener

U.S.A.F.A., Colo.- The Air Force men's swimming and diving teams opened their season Friday evening when they defeated Notre Dame, 178-120, in a dual meet in the Cadet Gymnasium's Natatorium.
Junior Paul Brehm led the Falcons by taking first in the 100-yard backstroke (51.24) and the 200 backstroke (1:53.78). Senior Nate Amidon won the 200 freestyle (1:45.37) for Air Force, followed by Falcon junior Kevin Heath (1:46.17). Amidon also won the 100 freestyle (47.80). Freshman Gordon White finished second (48.25) and junior Eric Pounds took third (48.62). Senior John Dayton took first in the 50 freestyle (21.25) and freshman David Parker won the 100 breaststroke event (58.89), followed by freshman Nick Burton (1:01.22). Pounds finished first in the 200 IM (1:57.22).
Junior Ben Chapman finished second in the 3-meter diving event (246.00) behind Joe Miller of Notre Dame (268.20). Sophomore Brady Lindberg finished second for Air Force in the 1-meter diving (239.25).
The Falcons will be in action again when they host North Dakota and the Colorado School of Mines Nov. 1 in the Cadet Gymnasium's Natatorium.
