Falcons host Windsor in exhibition game

This Week: Air Force plays its first home game of the season as the Falcons host the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada) in an exhibition game, Sunday, Oct. 13, at 12:05 p.m.
Radio/Television/Internet: None.
Skate With the Falcons: Following the Windsor game, the Falcon Blue Line Club will host the annual Skate with the Falcons at 3 p.m. Fans can get autographs, take photos and skate with the Air Force hockey team.
Alumni Weekend: October 11-13th is alumni weekend for the Falcon hockey team. Many former Falcons will be back for the annual event. The alumni game wil be Saturday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Cadet Ice Arena. The alums will then attend the Air Force-BYU football game Saturday night and the Air Force-Windsor hockey game on Sunday.
Wall of Fame: Two players will be inducted into the Air Force Hockey Wall of Fame during the Air Force-Windsor game on Sunday. Steve Hall, class of 1971, and Bob Ingraham, class of 1993 will become the 13th and 14th members of the Wall. Twelve players were inducted last season as part of the inaugural class. Hall, a forward from White Bear Lake, Minn., played in 75 games from 1968-71 and scored 71 goals and 65 assists. He was the team co-captain in 1968-69 and led the team in goals twice. Ingraham, a defenseman from Georgetown, Mass., played in 113 games and holds the record for most goals by a defenseman with 47. In 113 games, he also scored 69 assists and 116 points. He was the first AFA defenseman to lead the team in goals and points.
Scouting the Opponents: The University of Windsor, from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, is located just over the border from Detroit, Mich. The Lancers play in the Ontario Association and play several American universities in exhibition games. Windsor lost to Bowling Green, 5-2, on Oct. 1. The Lancers play the University of Denver on Monday, Oct. 14.
Perfect vs. Canadian Opponents: For the third time in the past four years, the Falcons will play an exhibition game against a Canadian university. Under Frank Serratore, the Falcons are 2-0 in those games. The 1999-2000 team defeated Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, Ontario), 2-1. The 2000-01 Falcons opened the season against the University of Calgary (Alberta) and defeated the Dinosaurs, 4-2.
0 and 2 - No Sweat: With two losses last weekend, the Falcons opened the season 0-2 for the second consecutive season. Last year, Air Force was beaten by Alaska-Fairbanks, 8-1 and 5-2, in the season openers on the road. Air Force rebounded to win three of the next four and finish the season with a 16-16-2 overall record.
First Goal: Freshman Carson Strang, who stood out in the Blue-Silver scrimmage with two goals, scored his first collegiate goal in the loss to Niagara. Strang's goal came on the power play from Shane Saum and Tom Starkey.
Inside the CHA: The 2002-03 season will be the most exciting in the three-year history of College Hockey America. The biggest news is the automatic qualifier. For the first time in league history, the CHA tournament champion will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament's new 16-team format. The CHA Tournament also has a new home as the city of Kearney, Neb., will host the six-team championship. "The Great Face-off on the Great Plains" will be held March 14-16, 2003, at the Tri-City Arena. All six teams will compete in the single-elimination postseason tournament. The No. 1 and No. 2 finishers in the regular season will receive a first-round bye while No. 3 will play No. 6 and No. 4 will face No. 5. Game times for days one and two will be 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The championship game on Sun., March 16, is at 5 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call Kearney Hockey Inc., at 308-338-8809.
Last Week: Air Force lost two games in the inaugural Lefty McFadden Tournament in Dayton, Ohio. Miami won the tournament with a 2-1 win over Bowling Green. Niagara defeated Air Force, 7-3, in the consolation game.
On Deck: Following the Windsor game, Air Force travels to Worcester, Mass., to face Holy Cross in a two-game, non-conference series. AFA and Holy Cross play Friday-Saturday, Oct. 18-19, at 7:05 p.m. EST.
