Two Falcon Wrestlers Earn First Place at Cowboy Open

Two Air Force wrestlers earned first-place honors at the Cowboy Open, and several others placed in the annual tournament.
Kevin Hoy, who is ranked sixth in the nation, won the heavyweight title. He finished the event unbeaten in three matches, including an 8-2 win over Wyoming's Brad Steele in the championship bout. Samuel Sherertz, who is coming off an injury-riddled season, also placed first. Sherertz was unbeaten in five matches. He defeated Patrick Owens of Boise State 6-3 in the championship match at the 174-pound weight class.
Several other Air Force wrestlers did well at the event. Newcomers Beau Tresemer and Matthew Benza each notched second place in the under-20 division. Nationally-ranked Heath McKim notched a third-place finish. Josh McCrary had a solid tournament, going 3-1 en route to a second-place finish.
