Fairfield scored one goal in every period for a 3-0 win over Air Force in a non-conference college hockey game Sunday, Dec. 29, in Fairfield, Conn.
The loss ended Air Force's winning streak at three games and dropped the Falcons to 8-10 overall. Fairfield improved to 2-10-1 overall and earned its first ever victory over Air Force after six straight Falcon wins.
Fairfield out-shot Air Force 22-11 in the first two periods combined and 23-17 for the game. The Stags struck first when Cody Wojdyla scored from Eamon Delgiacco and Lyon Porter at 15:31 of the first period. In the first period, Fairfield had 17 shot attempts while Air Force had just six. The Falcons were out-shot 10-3 in shots on goal.
Fairfield took a 2-0 lead in the second period on a power-play goal by Steve Caldarara. Trailing 2-0 in the third period, Air Force rallied and out-shot the Stags 6-1 in the period. However, Fairfield scored on its only shot on goal of the period. Lyon Porter's goal at 13:19 put the game out of reach for the Stags.
Fairfield was 1-for-3 on the power play while Air Force was 0-for-2. Fairfield was whistled for five penalties while the Falcons were called for seven.
Air Force returns home to begin a six-game home stand. The Falcons host conference rival Wayne State on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 4-5, at 7:05/5:05 p.m. in the Cadet Ice Arena.
