Falcons shut out by Denver, 7-0

The University of Denver men's tennis team defeated the visiting Falcons of the Air Force Academy, 7-0, Friday at the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion in Denver. The Pioneers improve to 8-12 overall, while AFA drops to 12-9.
Denver won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point. At No. 1 doubles, Magnus Ramfelt and Urban Ljubic defeated AFA's Chris Zielinski and Greg Zielinski, 8-6. The Pioneers sealed the point with an 8-3 victory on the third doubles court as Hans Peter Gaber and Jason Tan topped Falcons' Kyle Rainey and Justin Mancinelli. AFA's Eric Pittman and Tyler McClung captured the No. 2 match, 9-7, over Jay Patel and Trevor Young.
Denver won all six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Ramfelt beat Pittman, 6-4, 6-3. On the second court, Ljubic topped AFA's Rainey, 6-3, 7-6. At No. 3 singles, Patel defeated Chris Zielinski, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4, Gaber topped Mancinelli (7-6, 6-3), while senior Trevor Young earned a 6-4, 6-2 win on the fifth court over McClung. On the final court, Tan topped Chris Dong, 6-2, 7-5.
The Falcons will wrap up their regular season with a pair of home matches next week. Air Force hosts CU-Colorado Springs on Tuesday, April 16, and Metro State on Wednesday, April 17. Both matches begin at 1 p.m.
