Monday, July 01, was the first day single-game tickets went on sale for the 2002 football season. By the time the Academy ticket window closed, 5,200 tickets were sold. Most all of the tickets purchased were for the Notre Dame game on Oct. 19.
Monday's total surpassed last year's mark of 4,200 tickets when people rushed to by tickets for the Oklahoma game.
Helping boost ticket sales was on-line sales which accounted for close to 30 percent, according to Air Force ticket manager Chris Peludat. Tuesday was the first day that fans were able to buy tickets on-line through the athletic department's web site.
"As expected, we were extremely busy Monday," said Peludat. "The line to purchase tickets started forming at 5 a.m. and by the time we opened our windows at 9 a.m. we had over 100 people in line."
Season ticket sales have surpassed the 20,000 mark and Peludat is confident that before the home opener against Northwestern on Aug. 31 the goal of 23,000 will be reached.
