The Air Force golf team failed to defend its championship from last season, finishing in 11th place at the Falcon Invitational. UTEP won the tournament title, finishing with 864 total strokes -- 17 more than runner-up Denver.
The Falcons hoped to repeat as tournament champions after winning the event in 2001. They started the final day in fifth place overall and within striking distance of the leader, but dropped six spots after a disappointing third round. The team scored a three-round total of 909 (294-296-319). Adam Wasinger had the best round for the Falcons shooting eight over par (72-76-76=224).
The Falcons will next compete in the Denver Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
