Falcons roll over British Columbia

Eight different players scored as Air Force rolled over the University of British Columbia, 8-6, in a college hockey exhibition game Sunday night at the Academy.
Both teams were playing their third game in as many nights. British Columbia lost to Colorado College (3-0) on Friday and to Denver (6-4) on Saturday. Air Force played in Connecticut Friday and Saturday and flew back to Colorado on Sunday afternoon.
Air Force, 1-1 in the regular season, struck first as freshman Brian Gineo and senior Shane Saum scored in the first five minutes of the game. The first period was marred by a combined 10 penalties. BC's Jarrett Winn and Matthew Reid each scored power-play goals early in the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Air Force answered with a pair of power-play goals from sophomore Brooks Turnquist, senior Spanky Leonard and junior Ryan Wiggins to take a 5-2 lead at the 15:13 mark of the second period. Thunderbird forward Tyler Kuntz scored at 19:06 to make the score 5-3 after two periods.
The Falcons scored twice in the first six minutes of the third period as junior Seth Pelletier and sophomore Mike Knaeble gave the Falcons a 7-3 lead. Josh Priewe's goal with 3:02 remaining gave AFA an 8-3 advantage. In the final 1:05 of the game, BC scored three goals as Paul Dustin, Kuntz and Roberts Petrie lit the lamp to make the final score 8-6.
Air Force outshot its visitors from Canada, 39-24. The teams combined for 26 penalties for 63 minutes in the game.
Falcon freshman Peter Foster started his first collegiate game in goal and made 18 saves. Robert Filc started for the Thunderbirds and made 24 saves in two periods. Chris Leveaque made seven saves in the third period. Air Force was 4-12 on the power play while BC was 3-for-8.
Kuntz led the Thunderbirds with two goals while Petrie had one goal and two assists and Casey Bartzen had two assists.
Leonard led the Falcons with three points on one goal and two assists. Pelletier, Wiggins, Knaeble, Steve Mead, Brian Gineo and Adam Larson each had two points.
Air Force returns to regular-season action Oct. 17-18 at the Nye Frontier Classic in Anchorage, Alaska.
