Falcons Host First Home Meet of the Season

U.S.A.F.A., Colo.- The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams host North Dakota, Colorado School of Mines, Metro State College, and Colorado College Friday afternoon, Oct. 31. The meet begins at 3 p.m. in the Cadet Gymnasium's Natatorium to mark the first home meet of the season for the Air Force swimming and diving programs.
The Falcons are returning to action this weekend after opening the season against Navy, Oct. 3, in what was the men's first-ever swim with the Midshipmen and the women's third. On the men's side, the Falcons earned a decisive 167-133 win over their service academy rivals. The women also won in their opening meet at Annapolis, 181.50-118.50. Senior Carly Baxter led the charge for the Air Force women winning four events in the meet with Navy. Junior diver Michelle Hager won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the Falcons. For the men, senior team captain Paul Brehm won the 100 and 200 backstroke events while sophomore Nick Burton took first in the 100 breaststroke.
The men enter this weekend following a second-place finish at the Early Bird Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo., Oct. 25. The Falcons finished with a team score of 1226 behind Wyoming (1412) in their first Mountain West Conference match-up of the season. Air Force finished within the top three in 14 events and took first in four at the meet. Freshman Chris Knaute won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.86 while senior Kevin Heath finished third at the 1:46.62 mark. The team of Knaute, Heath, senior Casey Bowen and sophomore Charles LeBeau won the 800 freestyle relay for the Falcons. Knaute also finished first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 6:33.56 with junior Ryan Fitzgerald finishing third (6:46.77) and sophomore Matt Karmondy taking fourth (6:57.74). Senior team captain Paul Brehm won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.27 for Air Force. On the women's side, diver Michelle Hager finished third on the 3-meter and 1-meter events for the Falcons.
