Winning streak ends with 5-1 loss at UAH

Alabama-Huntsville scored three goals in the third period to defeat Air Force, 5-1, in a College Hockey America conference game Friday night, Oct. 31, at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Ala.
The game was the conference opener for both teams. UAH improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the CHA. Air Force's three-game winning streak ended as the Falcons fell to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Air Force scored first as the Falcons looked to break an 11-game losing streak in Huntsville. Sophomore Matt Bader's third goal of the season came at 5:27 of the first period. Freshmen Billy Devoney and Andrew Ramsey assisted on the goal. UAH tied the game just 12 seconds later as Jared Ross scored from Craig Bushey and Grant Selinger. Air Force outshot UAH, 12-8, in the first period.
The Chargers won the second period with only goal coming from Doug Watkins at 6:46. Watkins' shorthanded goal came one minute into the Falcons' power play and was the eventual game-winner.
Steve Canter's goal just over a minute into the third period gave UAH a 3-1 lead. Bushey collected his second goal of the season at 11:20 and then added a power-play goal with 38 seconds remaining to round out the scoring.
UAH outshot Air Force, 33-26, in the game and had a 25-14 advantage over the last two periods. The Falcons were 0-for-4 on the power play while UAH was 1-for-4 and also scored a short-handed goal.
The teams combined for 27 penalties for 86 minutes, mostly in the third period. Each team had eight penalties for 32 minutes in the third period. Charger goaltender Adam MacLean made 25 saves in the game. Falcon goalie Mike Polidor played 54 minutes and gave up four goals while making 26 saves. Freshman Peter Foster played the final six minutes and made two saves while allowing one goal.
The same two teams conclude the series Sat., Nov. 1, at 7:05 CST in Huntsville.
