Air Force Men Take Fifth At Speedo Cup

The Air Force men's and women's swimming teams finished fifth and sixth respectively at the Speedo Cup Invitational. Stanford managed to hold onto to its lead to finish first with 1885 points on the men's side. BYU took second with a score of 1012, followed by CSU Bakersfield (950.5) UC San Diego (567.5), Air Force (513.5), UC Irvine (493.5), University of the Pacific (490), UC Davis (367), Cal Baptist (317), UC Santa Cruz (195), and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (5).
Freshman Chris Knaute finished sixth in the 1650 freestyle for the Falcons with a time of 15:51.91 while junior Ryan Fitzgerald came in eighth at the 16:09.35 mark. Senior Paul Brehm took eighth in the 200 backstroke event with a time of 1:51.58 while senior Eric Pounds finished fifth in the 200 fly at 1:51:69.
On the women's side, Oregon State finished first with 1069 points with UC San Diego 930.5 finishing second. UC Irvine rounded out the top three with a score of 776.5 followed by BYU (704.5), Colorado State Univ. (678.5), Air Force (667), BYU (461.5), Univ. of San Diego (593), New Mexico State Univ. (402), San Jose State (348), Pepperdine Univ. (286.5), Fresno State (217.5), Loyola Marymount (217), UC Santa Cruz (213), Cal Baptist (206.5), Cal Poly San Luis Bispo (52), and Pomona Pitzer (50).
Junior Julienne White came secured the fifth-place slot in the 1650 free for the AFA women with a time of 17:28.21 while younger sister freshman Lauren White came in eighth at 17:34.93. Senior Carly Baxter and junior Jaymie Van Kooten finished seventh and 10th respectively in the 200 fly at the 2:07.10 and 2:08.56 marks.
