Series Records: Air Force and Bentley have played five times and the Falcons hold a 4-1 lead in the series. The teams have never played at Bentley. Bentley won the first game in the series in 1998, 8-4, in Air Force's Radisson Inn Classic. AFA swept the series in 2002 at Air Force and then defeated Bentley, 4-2, in the 2003 season opener at the Quinnipiac Cup. For complete series results, please see page four of this release.
Scouting the Opponents: Bentley College, from Waltham, Mass., is 1-3-1 overall this season and 0-1-1 in the Atlantic Hockey Conference. Bentley's lone win this season was a 6-3 decision over American International in the consolation game of the Quinnipiac Cup. The Falcons lost (3-1) and tied with Army (2-2). Last Sunday, Bentley lost at Union, 5-1. Bentley has a balanced scoring attack as four players each have two goals this season. Sophomore defenseman Josh Chase leads the team with four points, all assists.
Serratore vs. the Opponents: Frank Serratore is 4-1 vs. Bentley. He is 2-1 vs. Bentley at home and 2-0 on neutral ice.
Short-Handed Record: Air Force set a new school record with three short-handed goals in the game against Alabama-Huntsville, Nov. 1. The previous record was two done several times. The Falcons now have four short-handed goals this season. The record for shorties in a season is 13 in 1991-92.
Bader on Fire: Sophomore Matt Bader has scored a goal in four straight games, the longest streak of his career. Last season, as a freshman, he scored in three straight. His streak is the longest by a Falcons since Derek Olson scored in five straight in the 2001-02 season. Justin Kieffer scored a goal in 10 straight games in 1996-97. The school record was set by Chuck Delich with a goal in 14 straight games in 1973-74.
Knaeble Sets Shortie Record: Mike Knaeble's two short-handed goals against Alabama-Huntsville, Nov. 1, is a new school record. Knaeble has three shorties this season which is just two shy of Eric Rice's school-record (five) in 1991-92.
First Time at Bentley: Air Force is making its first trip ever to Bentley College. The teams have played five times, three at the Academy and two in tournaments on neutral ice.
Last Time vs. Bentley: Air Force scored two third-period goals as the Falcons defeated Bentley College, 4-2, in the first round of the Quinnipiac Cup in Northford, Conn. The game was the season opener for both teams. The Falcons' 51 shots were more than in any game last season. A young Falcon team had seven freshmen and three sophomores among the 18 skaters. Bentley jumped on the board first as Ryan Mayhew scored at 4:06 of the first period. Eighteen seconds later, Shane Saum scored to tie the game. Early in the second period, BC took a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal by Brendan McCartin. Freshman Andrew Ramsey's first career goal tied the game at 2-2 at the 2:58 mark of the second period. Midway through the third period, Saum gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead. The senior from Palmer, Alaska, left the game early in the third period due to an injured lower back. However, he returned to score the game-winning goal.Mike Knaeble put the game away with an unassisted short-handed goal at the 6:05 mark. Bentley goalie Simon St. Pierre made 47 saves. Polidor made 29 stops for the Falcons.
Winning Streak Ended: Air Force's three-game winning streak ended Oct. 31 at Alabama-Huntsville. The Falcons had two three-game winning streaks last season. The streak tied as the longest since AFA had the nation's second-longest unbeaten streak at the end of the 2001-02 season (eight games).
On Deck: Following the Bentley series, AFA is idle the week of Nov. 14-15. The Falcons host Niagara, Nov. 21-22, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
Last Week: Air Force opened the CHA season with a road trip to Huntsville, Ala. AFA scored first in both games, but UAH prevailed 5-1 on Fri., Oct. 31, and 6-4 on Sat., Nov. 1.
