Two Air Force hockey players earned College Hockey America player of the week honors for their performances in a sweep of Quinnipiac, Feb. 14-15.
Sophomore Ryan Wiggins was named the CHA co-offensive player of the week with Alabama-Huntsville's Joel Bresciani. Wiggins scored two goals and four points vs. the Bobcats. He netted the game-winner in Friday's 5-4 win and had seven shots in the series. The left winger from Alamo, Calif., has scored a goal in four of his last six games and has scored a point in six of his last seven. He is tied for the league lead with four game-winning goals this season.
Freshman Steve Cook was named the CHA rookie of the week. The left winger from Morrison, Colo., scored a career-best three points with one goal and two assists in Saturday's 6-2 victory. He assisted on the game-winning goal by fellow freshman Carson Strang. Cook leads all AFA freshmen with six assists and is tied for team rookie lead with eight points.
With two victories over Quinnipiac, Air Force snapped its 11-game winless skid that dated back to late December. The Falcons put their two-game winning streak on the line this week with a pair of CHA games at Findlay (Ohio). The Falcons and Oilers play Friday-Saturday, Feb. 21-22, at the Clauss Ice Arena.
