Dannie Morgan posted 34 saves in leading Bemidji State to 2-0 win over Air Force in a College Hockey America game, Saturday, March 8, at the Academy's Cadet Ice Arena. The game was the final regular-season game for both teams.
Bemidji State swept the two-game series and blanked the Falcons in both games. The Beavers finished the regular season with a 12-13-8 overall record and a 10-6-4 mark in the CHA. Air Force fell to 10-23-3 overall and 2-15-3 in the CHA.
Each team started its backup goaltender in the game as Falcon freshman David Goodley faced Morgan, the Beavers' junior tender.
BSU sophomore defenseman Bryce Methven put the Beavers on the board first with his second goal of the season. Methven took a pass from Marty Goulet at the point and his wrister beat Goodley high stick side at 8:21 of the first period. His goal was all Morgan would need as he made 34 saves in the game.
The Beavers clung to the one-goal lead until late in the third period. Air Force pulled Goodley from the net with 1:21 remaining and BSU scored an empty-net goal with 20 seconds left. Travis Barnes scored from just inside the red line from Anders Olsson and Morgan.
BSU out-shot Air Force in the first and third periods, but the Falcons held a 34-30 lead in the game. BSU was 0-for-6 on the power play while AFA was 0-for-5 with the extra skater. Goodley finished the game with 28 saves.
The Beavers finished fourth in the CHA and will play fifth-seeded Findlay in the first round of the conference tournament, Friday, March 14, at 7:05 p.m. CST in Kearney, Neb. Air Force finished sixth and will play third-seeded Wayne State in the first round on Friday at 3:05 p.m.
