The 2003-04 Air Force hockey team will embark on the first all-Division I schedule in school history. The Falcons open the season Oct. 10-11 at the Quinnpiac Cup. Air Force's first home regular-season series is Oct. 24-25 against American International.
"We have raised the bar with our schedule," head coach Frank Serratore said. "Playing an all-Division I schedule is a challenging endeavor for a service academy team. It is one that we welcome and look forward to. This is the level that we wanted to bring the program to and now we are here. I guess you have to be careful what you wish for sometimes. We chose to take this program into a league and move toward playing this type of schedule. Now comes the challenge of competing at this level."
The Falcons play in three regular-season tournaments this season. The team travels to Anchorage, Alaska, for the annual Nye Frontier Classic, Oct. 17-18. AFA will play Alaska-Anchorage in the first round and then either Miami-Ohio or Massachusetts-Lowell the second night. Air Force will also compete in the UConn Hockey Classic in Storrs, Conn.
A 20-game College Hockey America schedule begins Oct. 31-Nov. 1 with a two-game series at Alabama-Huntsville. The Falcons' first home CHA series is Nov. 21-22 against Niagara.
For the second straight year, the CHA Tournament will be played at the Tri-City Storm Arena in Kearney, Neb., March 12-14. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
