The Air Force golf team started the season in disappointing fashion, finishing in 20th place out of 20 teams at New Mexico's Tucker Invitational. The team shot a three-round total of 925 (305-308-312). Freshman Tyler Goulding, playing in his first career tournament, was the team's top player, carding a 229 (78-78-73).
Arizona State won the event by two strokes over host New Mexico, finishing at one over par (282-286-297=865). Ian Medlock of New Mexico took the individual title with a five-under-par 211.
Air Force will look to rebound this week at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The 18-team tournament will take place Sept. 19-21 at the Academy's Eisenhower Golf Course.
