Air Force Wrestler Places Eight at Midlands

Heath McKim finished in eighth place at the 41st annual Midlands Wrestling tournament held at Northwestern University, Dec 29-30. McKim, wrestling at the 125-pound weight classfinished the tournament with a 3-3 overall record.
McKim, wrestling as the number six seed, started the tournament with a first-round victory over Nick Kehagias (University of Chicago), 5-3. He then squeaked out a victory over Michigan State's Craig Trombly, 2-1.
In his quarterfinal match, McKim lost to the eventual champion, Tom Noto (Hofstra) by narrow two-point margin, 5-3. McKim assured himself a place finish in the prestigious tournament by defeating Curry Pickard (UNC-Pembroke), 6-3. He scored five points in the first period by throwing Pickard to his back. In the consolation semi-finals, McKim was defeated by Penn State's Matt Smith, 2-1. He lost his final match to Penn State's Adam Smith, in sudden death overtime.
Lucas Lefever (184 pounds) was 1-2 in the tournament, while Josh Peterson (149) lost both his matches.
