COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - Sophomore Richard Elmore (Napa, Calif.) and junior Lindsay Grose (Mission Viejo, Calif.) were named Mountain West Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced today (Oct. 13). It is the first time since joining the Mountain West Conference that Air Force has swept the weekly performance awards.
Elmore paced the 13th-ranked Falcons to a first-place showing at the Ft. Hays Invitational in Hays, Kan., on Saturday, Oct. 9. Finishing third in a field of 84 (and second amongst the Division I competitors), Elmore clocked a career-best 8k time of 26:08.
Clocking a career-best time of 18:41, Grose took first in the 5k race at the Ft. Hays Invitational. It is the second straight season that she has won the meet in Hays, topping the field of 70. Grose's winning time led to the Falcons earning their first team title of the season.
Elmore joins senior Abe Wengel (Menomonie, Wis.) as current recipients, as Wengel earned the award during the second week. Grose is the first female Air Force athlete since 2002 to be named the MWC athlete of the week.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday (Oct. 16) when they compete at the prestigious Pre-NCAA Meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
