Falcon Men Currently Fourth At MWC Swimming & Diving Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Air Force men's swimming and diving team is currently in fourth place with 85 points, trailing four-time defending conference champion BYU, Utah and Wyoming at the Mountain West Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at Oklahoma City Community College. The Falcons women's team is seventh with 50 points.
Utah trails the Cougars in men's action with 109 points, followed by Wyoming (99), Air Force (85) and UNLV (70). The Rams hold the No. 2 spot in the women's events with 99 points, followed by New Mexico (96), Wyoming (89), UNLV (77), Utah (62), Air Force (50) and San Diego State (46).
Senior Ben Chapman took fifth in the men's 1-meter diving finals, scoring 276.10 points. In the two other men's events, both relays, the Falcon men took second in the 800 yard freestyle relay and fifth in the 200 medley relay. The group of Chris Knaute, Eric Pounds, Rory Peterson and Casey Bowen clocked in with a time of 6:43.59 in the 800 relay finals. Paul Brehm, Nick Burton, Pounds and Charles LeBeau finished with a time of 1:31.66 in the 200 medley relay.
Day two events begin Thursday, Feb. 19, with preliminary events at 10 a.m. CST and finals competition at 6 p.m. The MWC Swimming & Diving Championships conclude Saturday, Feb. 21, following the 6 p.m. finals events and the announcement of the individual and team awards.
