Air Force senior Mike Polidor was named the College Hockey America Student-Athlete of the Year for his efforts on the ice and in the classroom.
Polidor is the third Falcon to win the award in five years. Scott Bradley earned the honor in 2001 and Brian Gornick won it in 2002.
Polidor, a goaltender from Imperial, Penn., is the No. 1 ranked cadet in his major of astronautical engineering. He carries a 3.89 grade point average and has a perfect 4.0 GPA in his major. He ranks 13th of 1,010 cadets in the class of 2004 and has been named to the CHA all-academic team three times. Polidor earned the Jim Bowman Award in the spring of 2003 as the team's top scholar-athlete and was a member of the Verizon Academic All-District team in 2003.
On the ice, Polidor is a three-year starter at goaltender and has been named to four all-tournament teams in three years. This season, he was chosen as a team captain by his teammates. He will conclude his career ranked third in Air Force history in career goals-against average (3.58) and third in career saves percentage (.886) while playing in nearly 100 games. He has led Air Force to numerous big wins in his career, but his biggest was a shutout victory over 21st-ranked Miami-Ohio earlier this season. He also ranks second in career Division I wins with 27.
Five Falcons were named to the CHA all-academic team. Polidor was named to the academic team along with senior defenseman Buck Kozlowski, junior defenseman Ross Miller, sophomore forward Matt Bader and sophomore defenseman Brooks Turnquist.
