Santa Clara Defeats Air Force, 6-1

The Santa Clara University men's tennis team won all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests Sunday as the Broncos defeated Air Force, 6-1, at the Degheri Tennis Center. The Broncos' record improves to 7-8 overall, while the Falcons fall to 9-6.
The Broncos swept the doubles matches to earn the afternoon's first point. The closest match was at the No. 2 position as junior Chris Doing and sophomore Trevor Johnson fell to Eric Kochanski and Ben Hidalgo, 8-4. Santa Clara won the other two doubles matches 8-3.
Air Force's lone point came a the No. 1 singles spot, where sophomore Shannon Buck, ranked No. 64 in the country, defeated 81st-ranked Gernot Fischer, 7-5, 6-2. Buck improves to 20-4 overall and 12-2 at the No. 1 spot in dual matches.
Four of Santa Clara's five singles victories were in straight sets. The only three-setter was at the No. 4 spot, where Francisco Zepponi came from behind to defeat Dong, 1-6, 7-5, (10-5).
The Falcons continue their spring break trip on Monday, March 22 at St. Mary's College in Moraga, Calif.
