No. 19 Falcons Set To Compete In Aggie Shootout

The 19th-ranked Air Force water polo team (8-8, 6-3 WWPA) returns to action this weekend, Oct. 29-30, as it competes in its final regular-season tournament of the year, the Aggie Shootout, hosted by UC Davis. The Falcons open the weekend against No. 17 Santa Clara at 11:20 a.m. (PT) Saturday, followed by a 3:10 p.m. meeting with BYU-Hawaii. Air Force then concludes the tournament Sunday with match-ups against No. 9 Pacific (9:10 a.m.) and the 10th-ranked host Aggies (1:40 p.m.).
Last Time Out...
Air Force faced its toughest competition of the year two weeks ago at the NorCal Open, finishing the weekend with a 1-3 record.
The Falcons began the weekend with a 15-5 loss to then-fourth-ranked Stanford, followed by a narrow 8-7 loss to No. 9 St. Francis, the top team in the East. On day two, Air Force had a close battle with 18th-ranked Santa Clara, but dropped the 8-6 decision in overtime in the second meeting between the two teams this year. The Falcons ended with their second victory over UC Santa Cruz this season, this time by the score of 6-4.
Once again, sophomore Clark Condict was the Falcons' high scorer for the tournament, tallying six goals and three assists on the weekend. Meanwhile, junior Danny Kimmich and freshmen Joey Brewer and Tyler Hewko all added three goals each. Additionally, goalkeeper Denver Saunders tallied 26 saves on the weekend.
Scouting the Broncos...
The Santa Clara Broncos, currently ranked 17th in the nation, hold a 13-10 overall record (10-5 in the WWPA) after falling to 10th-ranked UC Davis, 6-4, last weekend.
The Broncos, coached by Keith Wilbur, are led by freshman Jack Wall, who has 31 goals on the season, including a combined six scores in two games against Air Force this season.
Scouting the Seasiders...
The BYU-Hawaii Seasiders currently sit at 9-6 on the season (8-1 in the WWPA) after grabbing an 18-9 victory over conference opponent Chaminade. The Seasiders will travel to fellow WWPA team UC Santa Cruz before heading to this weekend's tournament.
BYU-Hawaii, coached by Aukai Ferguson, is led by Koen Plasmeijer, who has 32 goals on the season, while James Jacobson has added 22 goals.
Scouting the Tigers...
The ninth-ranked Pacific Tigers, members of the MPSF, hold a 10-8 overall record, falling 14-10 to No. 7 UC Irvine in their last contest. Pacific will travel to second-ranked Cal this week before heading to the Aggie Shootout.
The Tigers, coached by Mike Maroney, are led by Matt Turnbull, who has 24 goals on the season, while Will McLaughlin is second on the team with 19 scores.

The UC Davis Aggies, currently ranked 10th in the country, enter this weekend's tournament with an 11-10 overall record, 7-2 in the WWPA. They are coming off a 15-7 defeat by second-ranked Cal.
UC Davis, coached by Steve Doten, is led by senior Patrick Jacobson, who has 39 goals. Meanwhile, Mike McGee paces the Aggies' goalkeepers with 171 saves on the season.
Series Records...
This weekend marks the 35th all-time meeting between Air Force and Santa Clara, and the third this season alone. The Falcons, who lead the series 30-4, won the first meeting of the year 12-4, before dropping an 8-6 overtime contest to the Broncos just a few weeks ago.
Air Force and BYU-Hawaii will meet for the seventh time, with the Seasiders holding a 4-2 series advantage. BYU-Hawaii has won the last three contests against Air Force, including a pair of games last season.
On Sunday, the Falcons face the Tigers for the 27th time, as Pacific leads the series 20-6. Air Force, which has not defeated Pacific since 1995, dropped a pair of contests to the Tigers a year ago.
Despite losing two games to UC Davis last season, Air Force leads the all-time series with the Aggies, 33-16.
