The Air Force water polo team, currently tied for 18th in the country, wraps up the regular season this weekend, Nov. 5-6 with four games against WWPA opponents. On Saturday, the Falcons (9-11, 7-5) first head to Los Angeles, Calif., where they will take on 11th-ranked Loyola Marymount at 11:30 a.m. (PT), followed by a game with No. 20 Redlands at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, Air Force begins with a 9:00 a.m. contest at La Verne, followed by a 12:30 p.m. game at Claremont.
Last Time Out...
Last weekend, Air Force took part in the Aggie Shootout, hosted by UC Davis, where it faced some tough competition, including three ranked opponents.
The Falcons opened the weekend with a close contest against 17th-ranked Santa Clara, knocking off the Broncos with a 4-3 victory. Goalkeeper Denver Saunders led the defensive effort for Air Force, tallying eight saves, including two blocks of four-meter attempts by Santa Clara. Meanwhile, sophomore Clark Condict paced the team with a pair of scores.
Air Force's next contest turned out to be a heartbreaker, as the team dropped an 11-10 decision to BYU-Hawaii in sudden-death overtime. After Air Force claimed a 10-9 advantage with 36 seconds left in overtime, an unlawful entry by the Falcons with a single second remaining gave the Seasiders a penalty shot, sending the game to another overtime period. BYU-Hawaii responded by scoring the winning goal with just 10 seconds left on the clock in the first sudden-death overtime. Condict and sophomore Justin Berry led the Falcons with two scores each in the contest.
The final day of the tournament was rough for Air Force, as it fell to No. 9 Pacific, 9-3, and 10th-ranked UC Davis, 10-3. Berry tallied a pair of goals against the Tigers, while senior captain Jeff Donaldson notched two scores against the host Aggies to lead the Air Force offense on day two.
