THREE FALCONS NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE HOCKEY TEAMS
Three others named to the CHA all-academic team
U.S.A.F. ACADEMY, Colo. -- Three Air Force hockey players were named to the College Hockey America all-conference teams while three others were named to the CHA all-academic team.
The three Air Force selections are the second most in the six-year history of the league. The 2000-01 team had four players on the all-conference teams, including the player of the year (Marc Kielkucki) and the student-athlete of the year (Scott Bradley).
Junior defenseman Brian Gineo (South Windsor, Conn.) was named second-team all-conference by the league's coaches. Gineo is just the second Falcon defenseman in the six-year history of the league to earn all-CHA honors. Gineo led all CHA defensemen with five goals in league games and tied for fourth with nine points. In all games, Gineo tied for second in the league with 20 points. He tied for second on the team with nine goals and was fourth in points.
The Falcons placed two on the all-rookie team, tying the most in school history. Forward Eric Ehn (Dexter, Mich.) and defenseman Matt Charbonneau (Stillwater, Minn.) were honored by the league's coaches.
Ehn ranked second in the CHA in league points by a freshman with 14 and tied for the lead with six goals. In all games, his 22 points were third among all CHA freshmen and third on the team.
Charbonneau was second in the CHA in league plus/minus with a +2. His five points were tied for fourth. In all games, he was third among the Falcon defensemen with 12 points in 34 games.
Three Falcons were named to the CHA all-academic team. Matt Bader and Brooks Turnquist made the team for the second consecutive season while Mike Knaeble made the list for the first time.
Bader, a junior winger from Beaverton, Ore., carries a 3.16 grade point average in management. Knaeble, a junior winger from Eden Prairie, Minn., has a 3.02 GPA in operations research. Turnquist, a junior defenseman from Apple Valley, Minn., has a 3.23 GPA in astronautical engineering.
Air Force finished the regular season with a 13-18-3 overall record and a 5-14-1 mark in the CHA. The Falcons placed fifth in the CHA and will face fourth-seeded Wayne State (14-16-4, 7-9-4) in the first round of the Wells Fargo CHA Tournament, Friday, March 11, at 7:35 p.m. CST in Grand Rapids, Minn.
