This Week: Air Force (5-14-1, 3-7 College Hockey America) is off this week.
Next Series: The Falcons are on the road for their next series, Feb. 3-4, at Robert Morris in Moon Township (Pittsburgh), Pa.
Radio/Television/Internet: No television or AFA radio.
On the Road Again: Air Force will play its next five games, and seven of the final 11, on the road. The Falcons play four straight at home against Alabama-Huntsville (Feb. 17-18) and Robert Morris (Feb. 24-25).
The CHA Race: Bemidji State is in first place in the CHA with an 8-3-1 record for 17 points. Air Force is in fifth with six points while Robert Morris is sixth with five points. AFA was picked to finish sixth with RMU fifth.
Scouting the Opponent: Robert Morris (Pittsburgh, Penn.) is 5-15-2 overall and 2-7-1 and in last place in the CHA. In its second season of Division I hockey, the Colonials are winless in their last four (0-3-1) and have just one win in the last 13 games (1-11-1) dating back to mid-November. RMU is coached by former Air Force assistant Derek Schooley. The Colonials play just one game before hosting Air Force, at home vs. Princeton, Jan. 31.
The Coach: Air Force coach Frank Serratore (Bemidji State, 1982) is in his ninth season at Air Force and his 13th as a collegiate head coach. He has a 124-165-19 record at AFA and an overall mark of 173-256-28. Robert Morris coach Derek Schooley is in his second season and has a school and overall record of 13-36-6.
Going to School: When Air Force faces Robert Morris, Feb. 3-4, the Falcons will see a familiar face on the opposing bench. RMU head coach Derek Schooley spent five seasons at Air Force under Frank Serratore. He was an assistant coach for four years (1998-02) and was promoted to associate head coach in 2002-03. Schooley also played junior hockey for Serratore with the Omaha Lancers.
On a Tear: Sophomore center Eric Ehn has emerged as one of the premier offensive players in the CHA. He is currently third in the CHA in goals (10) and is fifth in points (23). Ehn earned CHA Offensive Player of the Week honors, Dec. 3, as he scored four goals and had seven points in the Wayne State series. Both his goals and points are career bests in the series. In his last 11 games, Ehn has six goals and 16 points. He had two points (1-1-2) in the first game against RIT, but was held scoreless in the second game, breaking a four-game scoring streak. Despite not scoring a goal in seven games, he had three assists at UAH, two vs. Niagara and two vs. Bemidji State.
Power Play Getting Better: The Air Force power play has struggled, to say the least, all season. On the season, AFA is now at 13.5 percent on the power play to rank 52nd in the nation. However, in the last 10 games, the power play is much improved. After going 0-for-13 against Army, the Falcons hit a low-water mark at 6.2 percent (4-80) to rank last in the nation. In the last 10 games, AFA is connecting on 21.5 percent (14-for-65).
Last Week: Air Force was swept at Bemidji State by scores of 5-2 and 5-3, Jan. 20-21, in Bemidji, Minn.
