Silver beats Blue, 3-1, in intrasquad game

Sophomore defenseman Michael Mayra scored two goals to lead the Silver team to a 3-1 win over the Blue team in the annual Blue-Silver intrasquad game Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the teams erupted for four goals in the second, and final, period. Freshman goaltender Andrew Volkening made 10 saves in the first period for the Blue while senior Peter Foster made three for the Silver.
Senior captain Billy Devoney opened the scoring at the 10:38 mark from Brian Gineo and Josh Schaffer to give the Blue a 1-0 lead. The lead lasted only 30 seconds as Mayra tied the game at 1-1 from Josh Print and Greg Flynn.
Senior captain Andrew Ramsey scored the game-winner with 4:02 remaining from Eric Ehn and Chris Hepp. Mayra added an insurance goal with 1:58 remaining from Ehn and Ramsey.
Junior goalie Ian Harper led the Silver to victory by making nine saves in the final 20 minutes and allowing just one goal. Senior Ben Worker made five saves and allowed three goals for the Blue team.
Air Force hosts the University of Calgary in an exhibition game, Monday, Oct. 2, at 7:05 p.m. at the Cadet Ice Arena.
The Falcons open the regular season with a pair of home games Oct. 6 and Oct. 8 at Cadet Ice Arena. Air Force hosts 15th-ranked Colorado College on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7:05 p.m. The Falcons then face Alabama-Huntsville, Sunday, Oct. 8, at 5:05 p.m.
