Falcons Lead On Day One Of Service Academy Golf Classic

Roanoke, Texas - With two rounds under wraps, the Air Force golf team sits in first place at 733 (+13) at the 14th-annual Service Academy Golf Classic, being held at the par-72 Trophy Golf Club Hogan Course. The Falcons, seeking their 12th-straight title at the event, are currently seven strokes ahead of second-place Navy.
On the opening day of competition, four Air Force golfers sit in the top-10, paced by freshman Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), tied for first place with an even-par 144. Senior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.) sits just two strokes behind in a tie for fourth place, while sophomore Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is in seventh place at 148. Rounding out the top half of the Falcons' group is senior Chad Follett (El Paso, Texas), who fired a tournament-low 69 to open the day and is currently tied for eighth place at 149.
Also competing for Air Force are sophomore Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.), in 11th place, junior Jared Freeman (Brazil, Ind.) in a tie for 17th place and juniors Matt Tanis (Asbury, N.J.) and Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) in 22nd and 23rd place, respectively.
Tomorrow, the Falcons continue their quest for their 12th-consecutive Reemtsma Trophy, with one final round, slated to begin at 8:15 a.m.
