Falcons Set To Begin Spring Schedule

USAFA, Colo. - The Air Force water polo team gets its 2006 spring schedule off to a start this weekend, April 22-23, when it heads to Annapolis, Md., for a tournament hosted by Navy. The Falcons will take part in five games over the weekend, including a match for the Air Force B squad on Saturday morning.
Among the Falcons' top returners from the 2005 varsity squad are reigning MVP Kyle Schafer (Jr., Irvine, Calif.), junior goalkeeper Denver Saunders (Roseville, Calif.) and top offensive performers Clark Condict (So., Irvine, Calif.), Justin Berry (So., Windermere, Fla.) and Tyler Hewko (Fr., Laguna Beach, Calif.). They will help lead the group of 14 Air Force players which goes into this spring training schedule looking to gain valuable experience for 2006.
The tournament begins for the Falcons Saturday at 9:00 a.m. (ET) when the Air Force B team takes on Northeast Zone. Meanwhile, Air Force's primary squad opens up competition at 1:00 p.m., when the Falcons play the first of two games against the top squad of the host Midshipmen. Air Force and Navy face off once more on Saturday, hitting the pool for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
Sunday morning begins for the Falcons with an 8:30 game against Johns Hopkins, another top team from the East Coast. The tournament concludes for Air Force at 11:00 a.m., when the Falcons will face Navy's B team.
This weekend's tournament is one of two in the Falcons' spring schedule. Air Force will also host its own tournament in Cadet Natatorium, the Rocky Mountain Invitational, May 6-7, which will also feature a clinic with the U.S. national men's water polo team.
After the Olympic clinic at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, a team of Air Force alumni will face off against Denver Masters at 11:00 a.m. At noon, another game featuring Denver Masters, this time against the Air Force B squad, will take place, followed by the Air Force Alumni versus Grand Valley at 1:30 p.m. A pair of Blue/Black competitions, with each team featuring seven national players and six Air Force players, will begin at 3:00 p.m. to conclude the action on Saturday.
Sunday's action will feature seven games, beginning with Air Force versus Grand Valley at 8:00 a.m., followed by Air Force versus Denver Masters at 9:15. An exhibition game with the national team players will start at 10:30 a.m., while Air Force's current varsity squad will face off against the Alumni team at 11:45 a.m. Grand Valley and Denver Masters will match up at 1:00 p.m., while the weekend will conclude at 2:15 with a game between the Air Force B squad and Denver Masters.
