USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Air Force cross country head coach Mark Stanforth announced the 2006 schedule this afternoon (June 14), which features nine competitions, including the prestigious Pre-NCAA Meet in mid-October.
The Falcons open the 2006 campaign in Laramie, Wyo., with the annual Wyoming Invitational on Friday, Sept. 1. Following a 22-day hiatus, Air Force travels to Minneapolis, Minn., for the 21st annual Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 23. With a quick turnaround, the Falcons close out the first month of the season by traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Utah Fall Festival on Sept. 29.
The men's team looks to defend their team title at the annual Fort Hays Invitational in Hays, Kan., which kicks off the second month of the season on Oct. 7. The Falcons will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 14, for the Pre-NCAA Meet -- the first of two invitation-only national meets at the Wabash Valley Sports Center.
The team then returns to Colorado for its lone home meet of the year. The Air Force Open will be held on Oct. 21, at the North Monument Valley Park near downtown Colorado Springs. Air Force returns to Salt Lake City and the Rose Park Golf Course for the 2006 Mountain West Conference Championships, which will be held on Oct. 28.
The Falcons conclude the 2006 season with the NCAA Mountain Region Championships, which will be held Nov. 11 in Albuquerque, N.M. The top regional teams and individuals will advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships, which will be back in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 20.
