USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force Academy seniors Chris Knaute and Paul Parmenter are competing at the 2006 ConocoPhillips National Swimming Championships, Aug. 1-5, in Irvine, Calif.
Knaute is slated to swim the 400 meter freestyle and 400 individual medley on Aug. 1. He is also scheduled to swim the 200 free on Aug. 2 and the 1500 free on Aug. 4. Parmenter will swim the 200 IM on Aug. 4.
"Chris and Paul have been selected as co-captains for the 2006-07 Air Force Swimming Team," Air Force men's swim coach Rob Clayton remarked. "They are both exceptional leaders and athletes. I'm very proud to have such fine young men represent our program at the USA Swimming National Championships."
Knaute, a native of Houston, Texas, owns the school and conference records in the 400 yard IM, 500 free and 1650 free. He has won seven Mountain West Conference titles and was named the 2005 MWC swimmer of the year. Knaute also competed at the NCAA championships in 2006, earning honorable mention All-America honors in the 400 IM and 500 free.
Parmenter, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., is the reigning MWC 200 IM Champion. Parmenter set a school and conference record in the 200 IM at the conference championships in the spring.
"Chris and Paul have done a nice job training this summer," Clayton added. "They each completed Introductory Flight training earlier this summer, and still managed to get their swim training done. They have been training with their home clubs during the month of July, and will represent both the Air Force Academy and their respective home teams at the National meet."
Each swimmer is representing Air Force Academy and their hometown USS Club (New Wave Aquatics of Houston, Texas, for Knaute and AFOX of Phoenix, Ariz., for Parmenter).
