HISTORY 101: The Falcons began hosting the Air Force Invitational back in 1991. Since that time,
STOP THE PRESSES: Before the media guides have even returned from the printers, the current crop of Air Force athletes have made significant impact on the program's history. Two Academy records, five Class records and eight all-time list incursions have been set in just the first three weeks of the season.
HIGHER AND HIGHER: Freshman Melissa Beerse rewrote the Academy's pole vault record...twice...at the Air Force Open on Jan. 27, winning the event with a height of 12'4¾". That mark topped the original record of 12'0½" that Ana Maria Ortega set back in 2001. Beerse first topped that standard with a height of 12'0¾", before clearing that new record of 12'4¾".
QUITE THE FIRST IMPRESSION: For two straight weeks, freshmen have set Academy records. One week before Melissa Beerse set the program's pole vault record, classmate Sara Neubauer improved the Academy's standard in the shot put. After sharing the team's Female Field Athlete of the Week the first week, Neubauer and Beerse have also been tabbed with the honor outright.
WE'LL BE SEEING YOU (IN AWHILE): This will be the final indoor home meet of the season for the Falcons, who do not return to the Academy for a competition until it hosts the Ris Westen-Air Force Twilight Invitational on May 4 at the Cadet Outdoor Track.
MOVING UP THE LIST: Casey Johnson earned a pair of third-place finishes in the long (17'8¼") and triple (38'0¾") jumps at the Air Force Open. Those distances were career-bests for Johnson, who moves into eighth all-time in the long jump and fourth all-time in the triple jump.
FOUR YEARS-ONE NAME: Throwing a season-best distance of 56'1" in the weight throw at the Air Force Open, Olivia Korte set the Senior Class record in that event. Korte also holds the event's freshman, sophomore and junior class records. To date, she is one of just two female Falcons in Air Force history to hold all four class records. In fact, only two members of the men's team have accomplished that feat in the history of the men's program.
COMING UP: The Falcons split up next weekend for a pair of meets on Saturday, Feb. 10. Some members of the squad will travel to
