Glass and Beck Lead Falcons in Regular Season Finale

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Backed by senior Calvin Glass and freshman Whitney Beck, the Air Force cross country team wrapped up the regular season hosting the annual Air Force Open at the North Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday, Oct. 20. The Falcons finished second to Colorado in both the men's 8,000-meter race and the women's 6,000-meter race.
Glass, who finished third overall, was the second-fastest collegiate runner with a time of 26:20.71 - a time which was 16 seconds better than the next collegiate athlete. Sebastian Ortiz clocked a time of 26:44.86 to finish eighth, while Andy Schweitzer picked up a top-10 finish (eighth) with a time of 26:50.62.
Freshman Justin Tyner finished 12th with a time of 27:24.53, while sophomore Ryan Workman rounded out the scoring runners with a 14th-place time of 27:32.61.
Sophomore John Oliphint and freshman Brian Lane finished 15th (28:01.26) and 16th (28:12.93), respectively.
In addition, five other Falcons ran in the 8000-meter race. Freshman Kyle Southard clocked a time of 28:56.38 to finish 17th, while classmate Brad Bauer finished 19th in 29:05.22. Freshmen Tyler Small (29:09.42) and Kyle Goldsmith (29:56.42) finished 20th and 21st, respectively, while sophomore Vincent Gilmore rounded out the contingent with a 23rd-place time of 30:36.27.
Backed by an 11th-place finish, freshman Whitney Beck led the Falcons with a time of 27:28.35. Beck just edged out senior Kelly Robinson, who clocked 27:28.75 to finish 12th. Sophomore Katie Anderson clocked a time of 27:29.03 to finish 13th, while freshmen Jessie Stimpson (27:29.26) and Rebecca Bodtke (27:29.50) finished 15th and 16th, respectively. Junior Danielle Pozun clocked a time of 27:29.73 to finish 16th, while sophomore Ally Romanko rounded out the field with a 17th-place
The Air Force "A" squad returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 27), when they head to San Diego, Calif., for the 2007 Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships. Action is slated to begin at 10 a.m. (PST) at Balboa Park.
