AFA Rifle team loses first game of the season

The Air Force Academy rifle team lost, 4558-4483, to the 11th-ranked UTEP Miners on Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Falcons first match of the season.

Sophomore Jon Stephenson and junior Chelsea Welsh were the Falcons' top shooters in smallbore, shooting a 553, respectively. Stephenson's score is a smallbore season high; he also shot a 547 in air rifle. Junior Brian Jarrell was the team's top air rifle scorer with a 577. Jarrell also shot a 547 in smallbore. Welsh had a 571 in the air rifle event. Collectively, the team scored a 2199 in smallbore and a 2284 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 4483.
