Falcons Drop Dual Meet To SMU

Dallas, Texas - With just one individual win, the Air Force men's swimming and diving team fell to SMU, 147-93, Saturday afternoon. The Falcons fall to 2-3 overall on the season, while the Mustangs improve to 2-0.
Sophomore Sean O'Keefe (Lake Oswego, Ore.) captured the Falcons' only victory of the day, winning the 1650 free with a time of 16:15.23. Teammate Tom Hansen (Fr., Berkeley Heights, N.J.) captured third in the event with a mark of 16:35.77. Hansen also recorded the third-best time in the 500 free, finishing with a mark of 4:45.01.
Finishing second in the 200 free for the Falcons was freshman Benjamin Gunn (Gainesville, Ga.), clocking in at 1:42.98. Gunn also took second place in the 100 backstroke, recording a time of 52.76, while Kai Yamashiro (Jr., Kaneohe, Hawaii) came in third in the same event with a mark of 52.84.
Bryan Avery (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) placed second in the 200 IM with a mark of 1:56.89, while registering the third-best time in the 100 butterfly, coming in at 51.35.
Junior T.J. Cowling (Newport News, Va.) and sophomore Stephen Grace (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed second and third, respectively, in the 100 free, with Cowling registering a time of 47.28, while Grace clocked in at 48.41. Also finishing among the top three for Air Force was Chris Morin (So., Crown Point, Ind.), who took third in the 50 free with a time of 21.74.
For the divers, sophomore Kyle Van Valkenburg (Tucson, Ariz.) took third place in the 1-meter event, while David Arlington (So., Eagle River, Alaska) finished third at 3-meters.
The Falcons are back in action Nov. 15-17, when they head to Long Beach, Calif., for the Speedo Cup.
