Falcons Travel to NCAA Mountain Regionals

The Air Force cross country team travels to Riverdale, Utah, for the 2007 NCAA Mountain Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 10. The meet, which is being hosted by Weber State University, will be run at the Riverdale Golf Course. Action is slated to begin at 11 a.m. (MST) with the men's 10,000-meter race. The women's 6k event will follow at 12:15 p.m.

ALL-CONFERENCE ACCOLADES
Junior Matt Williams and senior Ian McFarland claimed first-team all-conference honors at the MWC Championships on Oct. 27, while senior Josh Van Wyngaarden and junior Joe Curran accounted for second-team accolades. The four all-conference athletes are the most for an Air Force team since four were collected during the 2004 season.
CHAMPIONSHIP REVIEW
Four members of the Air Force men's cross country team earned all-conference honors, as the Falcons wrapped up competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., on Oct. 27. Overall, the men placed third - just one point behind runner-up New Mexico - while the women's team finished sixth.
MEN'S RECAP
Four of the five scoring runners for the men finished within the top 12, including three top-10 finishes. Matt Williams finished in 24:57, placing fourth overall for the second all-conference selection in as many years. Ian McFarland posted a sixth-place time of 25:02 to earn his first all-conference accolade. Clocking a time of 25:22, Josh Van Wyngaarden finished 10th, while Joe Curran's time of 25:24 was 12th.
WOMEN'S RECAP
The Air Force women were led by sophomores Brittany Morreale and Katie Anderson. As the duo clocked respective times of 22:44 and 22:49, Morreale and Anderson finished 22nd and 23rd. They weren't the only pair to finish together. Freshman Katherine Ward clocked a time of 23:52 to finish 36th, while senior Kelly Robinson finished 37th with a time of 23:54.
LAST YEAR AT REGIONALS
Backed by the underclassmen, the Air Force cross country team concluded the 2006 season at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. The men produced an eighth-place finish, while the women finished 13th. All five of Air Force's scoring runners finished within the top half of the 105-man field, guiding the team to its eighth-place overall finish (15 total teams). Matt Williams recorded the best time of the day for Air Force, crossing the finish line in 32:00 to place 35th, while Ian McFarland was close on his heels, placing 37th with a time of 32:03.
GLASS NAMED MWC RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Senior Calvin Glass was named the MWC Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Oct. 23, following his performance during the Falcons' regular season finale. Glass, who finished third, overall, was the second fastest collegiate runner at the Air Force Open in Colorado Springs' North Monument Valley Park. Clocking a season-best time of 26:20.71, Glass was nine seconds faster than the fourth-place finisher and 16 seconds better than the next collegiate runner.
