Air Force Wrestlers Finish Competition at Midlands Invitational

Evanston, Ill. - With six Falcons picking up victories Saturday, the Air Force wrestling team wrapped up competition at the Midlands Invitational, hosted by Northwestern. After two sessions, the Falcons sit in a tie for 23rd in a 52-team field.
Seniors Jake Kriegbaum (Abilene, Kan.) and Jacob Devlin (Livingston, N.J.) led the Falcons with three victories each on the opening day. Kriegbaum, wrestling at 141 pounds, won three straight in the consolation bracket, picking up a pair of decisions, while also registering a pin in a time of 56 seconds. Meanwhile, 184-pounder Devlin registered a fall in 5:39 in his first match of the consolation bracket, followed by a pair of decisions, including a 7-4 tiebreak victory.
Junior Stephen Crozier (Monona, Iowa) won his first two bouts in the 165-pound consolation bracket. Crozier followed a 4-2 decision with a 12-3 major decision before dropping a close 7-6 decision to fourth-seed Matt Coughlin.
Zach Valdez (Sr., Parker, Colo.) picked up a decision in his opening consolation bracket match at 125 pounds, registering a 6-1 decision over Bobby Joyce. Wrestling at 133 pounds, freshman Derek Gillespie (Chesapeake, Va.) also won his first match in the consolation bracket, pinning Nick Kilstein in a time of 4:56. Junior Jordan Tribble (Midwest City, Okla.) picked up a victory at 197 pounds, registering a 12-4 major decision in his first consolation match.
The Falcons are back in action next weekend, Jan. 5, when they head to the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prairie, Texas. Air Force will take on Eastern Michigan, Appalachian State and Brown in their first duals of the season. Meanwhile, another group of Falcons will head to the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Colby CC, Jan. 4-5.
