STOP THE PRESSES: Before the media guides have even returned from the printers, the current crop of Air Force athletes have made significant impact on the program's history. Two Academy records, six Class records and 18 all-time list incursions have been set in just the first four weeks of the season.
OOPS, I DID IT AGAIN: Freshman Sara Neubauer broke her own Academy record in the shot put at the Air Force Invitational. Throwing 47'6½", Neubauer upped her previous best of 47'2¼" that was set two weeks ago at the Nebraska Invitational. The previous record, which had stood for 23 years, has been rewritten twice in the past two weeks.
LEADERS AND BEST: For the first time in 12 years, the Air Force men's track and field team won its annual home invitational. The men accumulated 129.50 points to win the 16th-annual Air Force Invitational on Feb. 3. The Falcons topped the runner-up by 20.50 points to take first in the 12-member field.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: During the men's winning effort, sophomore newcomer Kellen Curry won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.16. Freshman Nick Frawley was the top collegiate finisher in the pole vault, clearing a career-best 16'7" to move into seventh on the program's all-time list.
FINDING FRAWLEY: Clearing a career-best 16'7" in the pole vault at the Air Force Invitational, freshman Nick Frawley was the top collegiate finisher at the Air Force Invitational. That height is the best by a first-year athlete in the Mountain West Conference (third overall). It was the second time in as many weeks - and the third time in four weeks - that Frawley was the top collegiate finisher in the pole vault.
FOUR YEARS-ONE NAME: With 5,224 points in the heptathlon, Brian Walsh set a new Senior Class record in the multi-event competition. Walsh also holds the freshman, sophomore and junior class records. This comes just one week after classmate Olivia Korte completed the sweep of the weight throw class records. To date, Walsh is one of just three members of the men's team to accomplish that feat in the history of the men's program, while Korte is one of just two females. Joining the duo are Dana Pounds (javelin), Mike Profit (60-meter hurdles) and Clayton Cole (high jump).
COMING UP: The Falcons will have one last tune-up before the 2007 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships. Air Force will travel to
