Falcons Lose Season Finale to UNLV, 7-0

The Air Force men's tennis team closed out its 2007 regular season on Sunday with a 7-0 loss to UNLV in Fort Worth, Texas. The Falcons, who dropped their eighth consecutive match, finished 11-15 overall and 0-6 in the Mountain West Conference. With the victory, UNLV improved to 10-13 overall and 3-3 in league action.
Air Force is idle until the MWC Championships, held April 26-28 at the Academy. The Falcons will be the No. 7-seed at the tournament and will face the second-seeded TCU Horned Frogs in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 26. The time of the match will be announced later. TCU defeated the Falcons, 7-0, on Friday.
On Sunday, the Rebels captured the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles contests. Elliot Wronski and Brett Hunter won at No. 1, defeating seniors Robby Alexander and Ryan White, 8-3. Jonathan Hooper and Wesley Burrows won at No. 2, netting an 8-2 win over AFA freshmen Brett Rodgers and Austin Francis. Slavko Bijelica paired with David Campbell to capture the No. 3 match over senior Keith Cronican and freshman James Tomlin, 8-4.
In singles action, Wronski, ranked 89th in the country, notched a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 1 over Alexander. The Rebels won four of the other five matches in straight sets, with the only three-setter coming at the No. 5 spot, where Francis gave Campbell all he could handle before falling, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(9).
