DRAKE DEALINGS: Last year, then-senior Dana Pounds became the Drake Relays' first three-time champion in the javelin throw. In addition to claiming the honor as a sophomore, junior and senior, Pounds holds the best throw in nearly 20 years (181'2").
MAKING HISTORY: Senior thrower Olivia Korte won the discus throw at the Oregon Invitational while also picking up a fourth-place throw in the shot put. Her winning discus throw comes one week after Korte set the Academy's Senior Class record at 169'6" to become the only Air Force athlete (male or female) to hold Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior class records in two events (she also holds all four class records in the weight throw).
HAPPY HOMECOMING: Freshman Ally Romanko had a strong showing at meet in her home state of
IN THE HOUSE: Sophomore Sean Houseworth clocked a NCAA Regional Qualifying Time of 14:11.23 to place seventh in the 5000-meter run at the Oregon Invitational. With the seventh-best time in Academy history, Houseworth set a new Sophomore Class record, displacing former Air Force great Eric Mack's 1994 time. In addition, it is the third-best time in the conference this season and the top time by a non-senior.
MORE MORREALE: Freshman Brittany Morreale continued to climb up the Academy's all-time list in the women's 5000-meter run at the Oregon Invitational. Her time of 17:19.23 is fifth in the program's record book and a new Freshman Class record.
MOVING IN: Sophomore Parker Cowles moved into the all-time standings with a 30:41.70 in the 10,000-meter run at the Oregon Invitational. That time is ninth on the Academy's all-time list.
YOU DON'T KNOW JACK: With 87.50 points, the Air Force men finished second at the recent Jack Christiansen Invitational, while the women totaled 55 points to finish sixth. Air Force accounted for six first-place finishes and five incursions into the Academy's all-time record book.
MAKE IT WORK: At the Jack Christiansen Invitational, senior Nick Luina earned first- and second-place finishes. Luina won the 400-meter dash, while placing second to junior Travis Picou in the 200-meter dash. Luina and Payne also teamed up with junior John Payne and sophomore Kellen Curry to win the 4x100-meter relay. The quartet clocked a time of 40.97 to take first, a time just shy of the season-best mark they set last week.
WE NEED A REWRITE: Sophomore Michelle Fryling won the pole vault after clearing a career-best 11'7¾". That mark is a personal-best by nearly a foot, a Sophomore Class record and tied for the third-best distance in Academy history. In addition to Fryling, her fellow vaulters moved up in the program's all-time standings. Senior Becky Stone finished fourth with a height of 10'8", which is sixth on the all-time list, while freshman Jessica Schafer tied for sixth at 10'2", which is seventh in the program's record books.
ISN'T THAT DEVINE: Sophomore Kirk Devine improved his hammer throw distance by over eight feet at the Jack Christiansen Invitational. Throwing a fourth-place toss of 185'6", Devine not only upped his personal high (previously 177'4") but he also set a Sophomore Class record with the throw.
