Sara Neubauer Named MWC Athlete of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force freshman thrower Sara Neubauer (Bottineau, N.D.) was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today (May 8). Neubauer claims her first conference award, after winning the shot put and placing second in the discus throw at the Air Force Twilight Invitational on May 4.

With a NCAA Regional Qualifying throw of 47'11¾", Neubauer won the shot put at the Falcons' home finale. The distance is second only to her Academy-record throw of 50'2¾" that she set several weeks ago.

In addition to her victory in the shot, Neubauer vaulted up five places in the all-time standings for the discus throw, as she heaved a 156'10" to take second. The distance, another NCAA Regional Qualifying Mark, is the third-best throw in Academy history. It is also the second-best throw in the Mountain West Conference this season, trailing only senior teammate Olivia Korte.

Neubauer becomes the second Air Force to earn the distinction this season, as Korte earned the first such award of the outdoor season. She shared the weekly honor with Colorado State's Nate Haryman, who was named the men's athlete of the week.

Neubauer and the rest of the Air Force track and field team head to San Diego, Calif., for the annual Mountain West Conference Championships, which will be held May 9-12.
