LOS ANGELES, Calif. - In its fifth game of the weekend, the 20th-ranked Air Force water polo team rolled to a 12-4 victory over Fordham Sunday morning on the campus of Loyola Marymount. The Falcons, who went undefeated in this weekend, improve to 10-8 on the season.
Air Force got out to a solid start, taking a 5-2 lead at the end of the opening period. The Falcons' lead continued to grow, as they outscored the Rams, 6-0, over the next two quarters. Fordham finally got back in the board in the final period, but it was not enough to overcome their early deficit.
Leading the Air Force offense in the victory were junior Alex Churnside (Orange, Calif.) and sophomore Bobby Geiger (Buellton, Calif. with three goals each. Kurt Lemmen (So., Orlando, Fla.) and Jack Hines (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) each added two scores, while Tyler Hewko (Sr., Laguna Hills, Calif.) and Jason Fung (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii) added the final goals. Junior goalkeeper David Ostrom (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded 10 saves in three periods of action, while freshman Danny Harold (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) added five saves in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons are off next weekend, but return to action Oct. 18-19, when they host Iona in a pair of games at Cadet Natatorium.
