Air Force Downs South Dakota State in WWC Dual

Brookings, S.D. - Winning six of nine contested bouts, the Air Force wrestling team rolled to a 26-10 victory over conference opponent South Dakota State Saturday evening at Frost Arena. The Falcons move to 7-9 overall, 2-2 in the WWC, while the Jackrabbits fall to 2-9, 0-6 in the conference.
Starting at 184 pounds, South Dakota State took the early 3-0 lead with a decision from Tyler Sorenson. However, sophomore James Ciccone (Mentor, Ohio) put the Falcons on top following the 197-pound match with a 12-0 major decision over Jeremy Swier. A heavyweight forfeit by the Jacks gave Air Force the 10-3 advantage while senior Zach Valdez (Parker, Colo.) scored a 6-4 decision against Alan Marvin at 125 pounds.
After dropping a major decision at 133 pounds, the Falcons rattled off three more wins. Senior Jake Kriegbaum (Abilene, Kan.) won for the 10th time in his last 11 matches, picking up a 16-5 major decision over Adam Everson at 141 pounds. Team captain Chris Szabolcs (Sr., Westlake, Ohio) added a win at 149 pounds, with an 8-2 decision over Sean Flynn, while Tony Dorward (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) used 1:08 of riding time to take a 2-1 decision over Weston Blasius at 157 pounds.
The Jacks picked up another decision at 165 pounds, but the Falcons ended the match with a win, as sophomore Tyler French (Malta, Mont.) registered an 8-2 decision over Justin Retallic.
The Falcons wrap up their dual schedule next weekend, Feb. 23, when they host Wyoming in a WWC contest slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Cadet East Gym.
