Seventeen Falcons Earn Academic All-MWC Honors

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Seventeen members of the Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named Academic All-Mountain West Conference selections, as announced by the league Thursday afternoon. The men's squad placed 11 individuals on the academic all-conference team, while six members of the women's team received academic All-MWC accolades.
On the men's side, senior captain Spencer Liedl (Neenah, Wis.) led the way with his fourth-straight selection. Junior Layne Wilson (Austin, Texas) was a three-time selection, while Spencer Butt (Jr., Sterling, Va.) and Chris Morin (So., Crown Point, Ind.) each earned his second academic all-conference honor. Meanwhile, Nathaniel Gilbert (Fr., River Falls, Wis.), Nathan Glandon (Sr., Abilene, Texas), Josh Hammervold (Fr., Sugar Land, Texas), Tom Hansen (Fr., Berkeley Heights, N.J.), Karl Mohrmann (Fr., Lake Forest, Ill.), Eric Robinson (Fr., Lakewood, Colo.) and Kyle Van Valkenburg (So., Tucson, Ariz.) were all named to the team for the first time.
For the women, Jane Hwang (Jr., Irvine, Calif.), Kallyn Johnson (Sr., Enid, Okla.) and Robbie Nitzberg (Jr., Springfield, Va.) all earned academic all-conference honors for the third time. Meanwhile, Katelyn Hunter (So., La Crescent, Minn.), Kaeli Kluesner (Fr., Denver, Colo.) and Chelsea Tompkins (So., Grand Junction, Colo.) receive the first academic All-MWC accolades of their careers.
A total of 730 student-athletes were named to the spring 2008 Academic all-conference team. Spring sports include baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
