Falcon Swimmers Head to Omaha Grand Prix Event

USAFA, Colo. - Air Force men's swimmers Bryan Avery, Justin Day and Benjamin Gunn will all be competing at the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational being held this weekend, June 5-8, in Omaha, Neb. The event is a USA Swimming Grand Prix Event, sanctioned by USA Swimming through Midwestern Swimming.
The three Falcons, who have already qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials that will be held in Omaha June 29-July 6, will begin competition on Friday as Avery and Gunn compete in both the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while Day competes in the 200 breaststroke.
"This is a great chance for our Olympic Trials swimmers to compete in Omaha and get ready for the Trials," said Air Force head coach Rob Clayton. "We will be back in Omaha in less than a month. There will be some of the top swimmers in the country at this meet. We should be fast, as our training focus has moved into specific race preparation work the past few weeks."
Avery, a rising senior from Mililani, Hawaii, who has already earned an Olympic Trial qualifying mark in the 100 butterfly, will be competing in the 100 fly, as well as the 100 and 200 freestyle events and the 200 IM this weekend. Classmate Day, a native of Peyton, Colo., earned his Olympic Trial qualifying mark in the 100 breaststroke and will compete this weekend in both the 100 and 200 breast, as well as the 50 free.
Meanwhile, rising sophomore Benjamin Gunn, a native of Gainesville, Ga., will have a busy weekend, competing in six events over three days. Already holding a Trial qualifying time in the 100 butterfly, Gunn will also compete in the 100 free, 200 fly, 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 IM this weekend.
