Air Force Men Picked Third in MWC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Air Force men's cross country team was picked to finish third in the Mountain West Conference, the league announced with the release of the annual preseason coaches' poll on Monday, Aug. 18. The women's team was picked to finish sixth.
The preseason poll was determined by the league's head coaches (six men's coaches, nine women's coaches), with the coaches not being allowed to vote for their own teams.
The Air Force men received 15 points for its third-place ranking. Defending champion BYU was the overwhelming favorite, receiving 25 points and five first-place votes. New Mexico was ranked second with 20 points, while Colorado State used one first-place vote to rank fourth with 14 points. Wyoming (nine points) and TCU (seven points) round out the six-team men's field.
One of the women's side, Air Force received 28 points for its sixth-place finish. Colorado State received six first-place votes and 62 points to become the early favorite to repeat as champion. BYU ranked second with three first-place votes and 59 total points. New Mexico rounded out the top-three with 49 points, while Utah (40) and Wyoming (35) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. TCU (22), San Diego State (15) and UNLV (14) closed out the women's field.
Air Force begins the 2008 season on Friday, Aug. 29, with the annual Wyoming Invitational in Laramie.
